The Organic Trade Association, an established international trade association located in Brattleboro, VT and Washington, DC seeks a highly organized and experienced Senior Accountant with extensive QuickBooks experience, knowledge of federal grants, and basic human resources recording keeping requirements. The Senior Accountant is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Senior Accountant supervises the bookkeeper and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. The position is based in Brattleboro, VT. This 40 hour per week position supports senior management through the preparation of regular, scheduled financial reports including cash flow and budget preparation. Only candidates with excellent communications and customer service skills need apply. Candidate must have a bachelor's in finance or similar degree. Essential Functions:
Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.Ensure the monthly and quarterly Bank Compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate mannerCollaborates with the Executive Director/CEO, Chief Operating Officer to support overall department goals and objectives.Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.Works to ensure a clean and timely year end audit.Provide necessary reports and information to ensure HR functions are undertaken.Maintains all contracts and necessary HR documents in a safe and secure manner.Works with auditors and government inspectors to ensure full compliance with all requirements.Support Chief Operating Officer with special projects and workfl ow process improvements Minimum Requirements Education:
BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting
Technical Skills and Prior Experience
Five to seven years prior supervisory experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area.
Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast paced setting. Experience with Quickbooks. Must have strong experience with Microsoft Excel, Access and Word. Demonstrated experience with standard reporting and budget development.
